1 *** On a train from Budapest to Vienna
(the landscape looks like it might actually have been shot between St. Pölten and Vienna, but I'm not sure)

In einem Zug von Budapest nach Wien, könnte tatsächlich auch anderswo oder möglicherweise aus verschiedenen Einstellungen zusammengeschnitten sein.

2 *** Westbahnhof
(15th disctrict, Europaplatz/Gürtel)

AFAIK, many trains coming from the east from Budapest that end or stop in Vienna stop at the Westbahnhof (which is a "dead end station") and actually travel a bit back in a "loop" in eastern direction before they reach it. This will probably change around 2014, when the new Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) is in service. Since 2008, the hall is a huge construction site, cannot be visited and is plannd to re-open in 2011. The platforms are still in service, but can only be reached from the side entrances, and not from the Europaplatz.

Von Budapest kommende Züge enden jedoch tatsächlich oftmals am Westbahnhof, wofür sie kurz vor dem Ziel über eine Art Schleifenfahrt wieder etwas Richtung Osten fahren. Dies ändert sich wahrscheinlich mit der Eröffnung des neuen Hauptbahnhofes. Die Halles des Westbahnhofs ist seit 2008 eine riesige Baustelle und kann nicht betreten werden, die Bahnsteige jedoch nach wie vor.

3 *** Zollamtssteg
(Between 1st and 3rd district, across the Wienfluss not far from the Donaukanal)

In the movie it looks like if it's right next to the Westbahnhof, but in fact it is about 3 km away from it. Maybe they used the U3 from Westbahnhof to Stubentor (or more likely Landstraße) which should not take too long.

Im Film kann der Eindruck entstehen, dass diese Brücke gleich neben dem Westbahnhof ist, in Wirklichkeit jedoch 3 km entfernt. Allerdings ist diese Stelle ist in der Nähe der U-Bahn-Station Stubentor (Linie U3, orange), bzw. der zu sehenden Gehrichtung nach Landstraße, wohin es vom Westbahnhof aus nicht allzu lange dauern sollte.

Below there's the underground/subway line U4 (green line), there were some construction/service works when the photo was taken, between the stops Landstraße and Schwedenplatz.

They're also not sure if it's called -steg or -brücke ;-)

At the time of shooting tram line 1 or 2 completley arond the ring, and D partially, since 2008, all those lines leave the ring at some point, 1 on the western ring is probably most interesting for sightseeing. The standard tickets are not valid on the "Vienna Ring Tram".

Zum Entstehungsdatum des Films fuhren die Straßenbahn-Linien 1 und 2 in jeweils unterschiedlicher Richtung komplett um den Ring, die Linie D bis heute auf einem Teil, und verlässt diesen dann, wie auch seit 2008 die Linien 1 und 2. Für Besichtigungen nach wie vor interessant ist die Linie 1 ungefähr zwischen Oper und Schottenring auf dem westlichen Teilstück, die Fahrscheine zum Verbundtarif gelten nicht auf der "Vienna Ring Tram".

It looks like if it was only a few minutes from the underground/subway station, but in fact it is very far outside near the city limit. It can be a bit complicated to get there by public transport (look at http://www.wienerlinien.at / Elektr. Fahrplanauskunft, "Alberner Hafen"). If you have a lot of time, you could also walk there (or go by bicycle) along the Donaukanal for several kilometers, but turn right before the Alberner Hafen.

In Wirklichkeit ziemlich entlegen in der Nähe der Stadtgrenze, seit 2000 erreichbar mit der Buslinie 76A etwa von der U3-Station Enkplatz aus, davor 6A. Abfrage der Fahrplanauskunft ("Alberner Hafen", nicht alle Busse fahren dort hin), oder z.B. die Anreise per Fahrrad entlang des Donaukanals (rechtzeitig rechts abbiegen, da sonst Sackgasse) ist empfehlenswert.

Very far outside, but there's a big signpost. You should also get there when you follow the path along the fence.

Yes, it is right next to the Westbahnhof. A short view right before was also shot at the Gürtel, but actually about 1 km north of the Europaplatz at the Lerchenfelder Straße I think - jumping from one location to another in a few moments again ;-)

I think this short scene at the end was about there. Maybe not too spectacular and a bit far outside, but nice for a biking or hiking/jogging tour if you have a lot of time.

	"Before Sunrise", 1995 entstanden, könnte man als "Arthouse-Liebesfilm" bezeichnen. Er ist jedenfalls auch für Leute sehenswert, die sich so etwas sonst eher nicht anschauen. Der Film zeichnet sich durch eine dichte Atmosphäre aus, die trotz der eher minimalistischen Aufmachung entsteht. Trotz der vielen Dialoge fand ich ihn alles andere als langweilig, dagegen habe ich mich bei so manchem anderen Film der ständig von anderen hochgejubelt wird ziemlich gelangweilt. Zwei Reisende in Wien, nur ein Tag und eine Nacht Zeit und insgesamt ein intelligenter, angenehmer Film. In der Originalfassung ist auch die Mischung aus dem Englisch der Haupt- und den oftmals deutsch sprechenden Nebenpersonen interessant. 2004 gab es dann die Fortsetzung "Before Sunset", die in ca. 80 Minuten in Echtzeit in Paris spielt und die durchwegs als gelungen gilt. Es ist auch keine neue Version des ersten Teils, sondern zeigt "weiterentwickelte" Charaktere. Dazwischen gab es im Film "Waking Life" (2001, ebenfalls vom Regisseur Richard Linklater) eine Szene mit Ethan Hawke und Julie Delpy aus den beiden Filmen, die als Traum interpretiert werden kann und wo nicht ganz sicher ist, ob sie Teil der offiziellen Before Sunrise/Sunset-Geschichte ist. Der Film ist auf "strange" gemacht (über real gefilmte Szenen gezeichnet) und manche meinen dass man ihn sich nur unter Einfluss von berauschenden Substanzen wirklich anschauen kann ;-) Weiters gibt es auch die Dokumentation "Durch die Nacht mit Julie Delpy und Bela B." die einmal auf Arte gelaufen ist und wo die Hauptdarstellerin einen Abend in Paris unterwegs ist. Es ist nicht wirklich ein "Making of", aber von der Atmosphäre her etwas ähnlich. "Before Sunrise", made in 1995, is some sort of "arthouse" romance. It is also enjoyable for people who usually don't watch such films. Despite being "minimalistic", it has a very tight atmosphere, and despite having a lot of dialogue in it, I didn't find it boring. Two travellers in Vienna, Austria, only time until the next morning - overall a nice, intelligent movie. A sequel "Before Sunset" has been released in 2004, it is set in about 80 minutes real time in Paris, France and most people seem to like it. It is no new version of the first part, but it shows "matured" characters. "Waking Life" (from 2001 and also by director Richard Linklater), an animated movie drawn over real filmed scenes has a scene with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy from the two films in it. It is not sure if it is part of the "official" story, the film is made in a "strange" style and some say that you have to be drunk or on dope to enjoy it ;-) There is also a documentary "Durch die Nacht mit Julie Delpy und Bela B." (Through the night with Julie Delpy and Bela B.) which was shown on the german/french TV channel Arte. It is not really a "making of", but it shows Julie Delpy during an evening in Paris and has some sort of similar atmosphere as Before Sunset.
