The Journal Locator in Psychology and the Social Sciences |
| PsycLine
has recently been chosen (and been awarded) as a 'Scout Report
Selection' from renowned Internet
Scout Project: "Created
and maintained by A. Gunther and M. Brand, this impressive metasite
indexes over 1,600 online psychology and social science journals
published in English, German, French, Dutch, and Spanish. The format of
the site varies at some of the nine mirrors (four in the US), but at the
main site and most of the mirrors, users can search the index by keyword
or browse by alphabetical listing, subject, and by type of information
online (ejournals, selected articles, abstracts, tables of contents) via
pull-down menus. Entries include a brief description, content offered
online, and a link. An excellent resource for scholars and students in
psychology, linguistics, and sociology" (Scout Report Vol.7, 6,
3.2001) [09.2001]. |

| APA
- American Psychological Association |
| Right
from the start at APA's Homepage the audience is wisely divided into
three groups, psychologist, public, and students. This enables to suit
each target group's special needs and interests. The site provides
up-to-date information (daily updates!) about almost any topic related
to psychology and is definitely worth a visit. Below you can read an
excerpt of the welcome address by Norine G. Johnson, 2001 APA President
[09.2001]. |
| From
the welcome address by Norine G. Johnson, PhD, 2001 APA President:
"Welcome to the
American Psychological Association website, a site that receives over
220 million hits per year. APA is the oldest and largest psychological
organization in the world and it is my distinct honor to serve as APA
president at the beginning of the 21st century. Psychology has never
been a more vital or more promising discipline than it is today.
For our society, the
changes in health care are probably the biggest social public policy
change in the last 20 years. As a private practitioner and owner of four
psychology businesses, I know what changes in health care mean to
patients, communities, and the profession of psychology. I also know
that times of change are times of opportunity.
Psychology is the
logical discipline to provide leadership on social and behavioral
science research and professional practice in health. That is why I have
selected three initiatives for my presidential year. These initiatives
are Psychology Builds a Healthy World, Emerging Opportunities in
Science, and Expanding Opportunities in Psychology Practice. [...]
Psychology touches many
aspects of our lives and makes vital contributions to our society.
Working together to strengthen our science and profession today will
ensure that we are ready and able to make even greater contributions to
enhancing the health and welfare of all people tomorrow." [Link]

| WHO
- World Health Organization |
| There
is no additional comment necessary why this website has been accepted in
W.o.P.'s list. It should be your first-choice resource on any health
related topic you are interested in. A special section called 'Health
Topics from A to Z' should be your starting point, another useful site
is 'Site Index'. The portal is fully tri-lingual, presented in english,
french, and spanish [09.2001]. |
WHO
definition of HEALTH: Health is a state of complete physical, mental
and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or
infirmity.
[Preamble to the
Constitution of the World Health Organization as adopted by the
International Health Conference, New York, 19-22 June, 1946; signed on
22 July 1946 by the representatives of 61 States (Official Records of
the World Health Organization, no. 2, p. 100) and entered into force on
7 April 1948]. |
